The United States served as the major production area for the Allied Powers because of its safety and large industrial base. American made planes, tanks, ships and other war material eventually equipping entire military units of its European allies. The only downside to this relative safety was the fact that all units had to be shipped overseas, which made them more expensive relative to other countries’ equipment, which could be produced on site.
