The Japanese entered the war on the side of the axis powers because they were being blocked by the United States from access to the resources they desired. Japan had a strong naval tradition, so it no surprise that the Japanese navy fielded the largest destroyers and battleships of the war. They also had a culturally fanatic outlook that allowed them to field kamikaze pilots who were quite willing to die if they could take an enemy with them. If there was a weakness to the Japanese, it would be their under-gunned and under-armored tanks and artillery.
