The Italians sat on an economic bridge between Africa and Europe that provided the Germans a route to natural resources and was an important source of wealth. Italian artillery were the best troops they fielded during the war. They also had, arguably, the most advanced bombers on the axis side, which were able to carry a larger payload than any plane in the German Luftwaffe. The greatest downfall of Italy’s forces was a lack of morale, direction, and training.
