Great Britain, throughout the war, served as a bastion of indomitable will and perseverance. Despite the Blitzkrieg, U-boat and V2 rocket attacks, the British people never waivered once they committed to oppose Germany. British airpower featured large strategic bombers and advanced fighters. They possessed excellent maneuverability, landing characteristics and were easily serviceable. British land forces, however, suffered from a lack of intrinsic mobility. Thus they relied heavily on American ground transport during the re-invasion of Europe.
